The initial reason for my trip to Italy was to do a “reccie” on the Venice Carnival for a few days to witness the colourful spectacle for myself and photograph the splendour and experience the difficulties of this famous event, then shoot north to The Dolomite mountains with the purpose of planning future photography holidays to both places.
As this was always an exploration trip I was going on the trip alone however a model friend of mine I have worked with a fair few times before asked if she could join me on the trip to do some fashion shots of her in the locations I was visiting throughout the trip which was absolutely fine with me and added another dimension to the trip.
We started off the trip with the first 3 days in Venice and with the Carnival drawing to its conclusion I had to focus on the people taking part in this amazing spectacular so wonderfully dressed in the gowns and masks it really is something else and I had to understand all the challenges of shooting this magnificent event in Venice.
Kat’s first time in Venice is one I’m sure she will remember for a lot of reasons, seeing the Carnival, just being in Venice and best of all modelling in such a amazing and picturesque environment we both had an amazing time and a lot of laughs along the way, next stop The Dolomite Mountains.
Driving to our digs in Pieve di Cadore was an absolute joy in itself, the scenery along the journey was utterly breathtaking the twisting turning roads had an epic view around almost every single turn. Arriving at the apartment at night we had no real idea what views we might have from the balcony the morning gave us a truly memorable answer when watching the sun rise over a mountain over the town that was still holding onto some snow, amazing.
I had an extensive list of places to visit so we took off we a spring in our step and full of excitement. One thing I hadn’t considered for the Dolomites was that at this time of year in February that the majority of it would be frozen including a lot of the Lakes I wanted to visit but undeterred I thought it’s not a problem it’s just a different opportunity and as we toured around the spectacular mountains Kat had plenty of options for her to strut her stuff, it was an amazing trip and one to truly remember.
